Systema Seminar with Martin Wheeler
Once again Desert Dragons would like to welcome Martin Wheeler to our school for another fantastic Systema seminar. For those unfamiliar, Systema originated as a Russian martial art that really started to gain in popularity toward the early 1990s during the break up of the former Soviet Union. Systema training usually involves hand-to-hand combat techniques, grappling, knife fighting, and firearms training.
An expert in Systema, Kenpo, boxing, grappling and weapons fighting, Martin will use his street experience to present two days of blended striking techniques for the street. Take your striking to the next level with the trainer for the Navy SEALS, D.E.A, and S.W.A.T.. This seminar would be good for any style of martial artist who wants to expand their training, their ability, and their thinking.
My biggest take away from the last Martin Wheeler seminar that I attended was relaxation. For those that know me, my natural state is like an electrical guy-wire - I have a terrible time relaxing - grab me or threaten to stick a knife in me and I become a solid, rigid mass. The last seminar demonstrated that tension is one of your greatest enemies in a knife fight. I was able to learn to stay calmer, keep my breathing steadier and to be more aware of my surroundings. While I still struggle with relaxing in any high-tension situation, the benefits have spilled over into my daily Kenpo training - where the same relaxation priciples reign supreme.
The seminar will be held at the Desert Dragons school on October 28th and 29th.
