At Desert Dragons Kenpo Karate in North Peoria, students of all ages build real-world self-defense skills, confidence, leadership, and discipline in a supportive, high-energy environment. Whether your child is just starting out or you are an adult looking for practical training and measurable progress, our programs are designed to help you grow on and off the mat.

What We Do
We teach American Kenpo Karate with a structured, age-appropriate curriculum that develops:

  • Practical self-defense skills
  • Coordination, balance, and physical fitness
  • Focus, respect, and character
  • Conflict awareness and conflict resolution
  • Confidence and leadership

Classes We Offer

  • Little Champions (Ages 4–5): Interactive foundational class focused on movement, listening, body awareness, and beginner self-defense pre-skills.
  • Cubs – Beginner (Ages 5–9): Progressive training from basic to advanced concepts, including safe falling, defense techniques, coordination, and confidence-building.
  • Kids – Advanced (Brown through Junior Black): For qualified students ready for intermediate to advanced curriculum with strong focus, maturity, and technical growth.
  • Dragons (Ages 9–14): Deeper curriculum for older youth that builds skill, responsibility, and leadership, including opportunities to assist younger students.
  • Adults (Ages 14+ with approval): Comprehensive and scalable training for new, intermediate, and advanced students focused on real-life defense and personal performance.

Instructor Spotlight: Associate Master Scott Gonzalez
Associate Master Scott Gonzalez began his Kenpo journey in 1990 and has trained under respected names in American Kenpo, including Rick Jeffcoat and Grand Master Larry Tatum. He earned his 1st Degree Black Belt in 1995 and founded Desert Dragons in Arizona in 2005. Since then, he has helped build a school culture centered on leadership, confidence, and community impact.
With experience as a secondary teacher in both California and Arizona, Associate Master Gonzalez brings proven instructional skill, patience, and a deep commitment to student growth for kids, teens, and adults alike.
